When I was a young child, I remembered seeing Danny Thomas on TV with his kids. Not the kids he and his wife had in their little family, but the kids he claimed through St. Jude’s Research Children’s Hospital. It was both sad and heartwarming to see these children that obviously had serious health conditions looking so ill and yet smiling with so much hope.

To be honest, I never knew a lot about the organization but because of the ads Danny Thomas and later his daughter, Marlo Thomas, had on the air, I always thought well of the organization and felt they did good work.

I surprised to discover that Danny Thomas was the founder of St. Judes. He was a deeply religious man in many ways and gave credit for his successful career in entertainment to St. Jude, patron saint of lost causes. When he prayed for a successful career when he first began entertaining, he gave a promise in return. His promise was to do something big in the saint’s name. I think we can all agree that he kept his word. The families of the children and the children themselves that received care at the hospital would also agree that he and his hospital have given hope where sometimes there wasn’t any.

I feel honored to be involved in something that supports such a worthwhile cause. I’ve heard people say they can’t make a difference and one voice won’t be heard. I disagree. It starts with one person and it can grow to a crowd. In this case, Christine Gorri and PT Macias got together and decided to get a boxed set going to support this amazing charity.
